No smoke without fire!

Devon & Cornwall Fire and Rescue Department have requested that Beekeepers do not use traditional smokers as they are a potential source of heathland fires, particularly where "out apiaries" are located on the heather!

Back to the Rosemary infused pure spring water then!

Yeghes da

Not to mention cigarettes and BBQ's

Having worked alongside them, I've always founs that the water fairies down your way are not exactly in touch with the real world!
...........or maybe they've heard of RAB? :D

Most of the time the majority of colonies can be controlled using a waterspray and many don't need anything at all other than gentle handling. Only really need smoker to control agressive colonies. That said I always have a smoker on standby as some colonies can turn nasty for various reasons eg if queenless, imminent thunderstorms, flow stopped and colony being robbed.

perhaps the good people in the department need reminding that we pay their wages aswell.

has there ever been a fire caused by a smoker, other than cars going up in smoke due to them lol.

it still haunts me as I now carry a lit smoker in mine between apiaries and to home after. mind you I make sure its in a sealed ex ammo box.

Not to keen on it either as I have a 120 litre gas tank in the boot.!!!!

so was it just a poisson? We had several fires on the commons during the last dry spell, but I suspect that faggers, kids and arsonists were more likely to be responsible than beeks with a smoker! so it must be fishy...., non?
