Another question if I may?

How do I reduce the entrance in a Swienty hive, or does the design mean I don’t need to do that? It doesn’t look high enough to let a mouse in…so I’m not sure what else I need to keep out?

Poly nuc I have a metal guard for - the entrance on that is definitely mouse-sized.

A mouse can flatten its head and get in through a wide entrance 9mm high.

A mouse cannot flatten its head and narrow it at the same time, so a mouse guard with a 8-9mm hole will prevent entry.

Reduce entrance width on Swienty floors by inserting a National frame bottom bar. Chop and insert another section of bar to reduce width right down. Bees will propolise the strips in place.

See this thread for how I reduced mine with bottom bars from national frames. Although my hive's a really early model, Swi-bo rather than Swienty, so I don't know if it'll work on yours too.
