Bee space. As I understand, you narrowed the end for less surface area glued to the wall. The bee space under the lug has now been increased so they could well gum up this area as well.

I take your point. The photo is slightly deceptive - the chamfer is only 10mm long so not a significant increase in area of increasing beescape. I reckon I have decreased the area at the end of the top bar to about 20% of the original.

I will put the modified frame in the hive and see what the bees make of it. If it's not an improvement, I will report back to that effect.

I think castellations in the brood box are the devil's work......rolling bees on every frame!
I had this problem in my MB boxes so all the frames get a little sawn off one end to make them a looser fit in the box. The extra space is not propolised, even by my sticky Buckies.


I agree , the devils work indeed . Wanted Queen cells dragged off the frame .
