Do you wish to select for genes that allow survival of feral colonies?, or select for honey production/docility etc.

The latter. I was trying to give a simple answer to a simple question and ended up being too general (it seems).

Best such genes are as much swarmimg as possible. And 1/3 size colonies compared to modern breeded strains..

I wonder how wild swarms and feral bees get enough stores for winter if honey yieds in nursed hives are about 10 kg.

Probably don't live in cold drafty wooden hives
