Ouch !!!

I have not needed to order frames and foundation for some time, (luckily), it would seem i have missed a lot, just placed an order for 1 x Lang brood frames plus wired foundation, and 1 x mod dad shallow plus foundation, when i include the delivery, im down £63.

At this rate frame changes will be done a helluva lot less than i used to, i did check a few other sites and they were there or therabouts, i went ahead as i want to try this supplier out.

I know we talk about newbies dropping beekeeping, but those of us who have just about managed to give the bees all that they need when they need it, will very soon be priced out of the hobby.



Maybe plastic is the way forward.

Oh, could you let me know which ones please, I need some bargain frames. The better half won't be best pleased if I spend much more on my bees. So far the homey I got last year works out at about £400 per pound

A) boil your frames and re-use.
B) cut your foundation into starter strips.

Anything else, just ask

This is why i make my own frames!
If i could make my own foundation i would!

how do you make your own frames - this seems to be the hardest part of the whole business! - boxes and hives I can make with a router, circular saw and a local supplier of cedar planks - even foundation, theoretically! Frames, though, seems to me to be the one piece of kit that I'd need to turn to a supplier for. Spindle moulder.....?

I cut mine from large stock, plane, size, thicknesser, then table saw with a dado (could use a router table or spindle moulder for that part) then just lop off each side with the bandsaw.

The tops are just cut to near size on the table saw then using the thickness planer bring them down to the required size and then again with a dado plough out the cuts.

Easy for me to say but i have the kit.

I will do a video so people can see how easy it is.
