In the past 48 hours it's been confirmed that North Korean troops have arrived (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3vkqwe9wwdo) in Russian-occupied Ukraine - Europe's biggest producer of honey (https://www.statista.com/statistics/812172/global-top-producers-of-honey/).

It's looking like the west's strategy of non-escalation, has led to other dictatorships slowly joining Russia (North Korean soldiers and weapons, Iranian missiles and Chinese military tech).
The passive posture, while conceding the initiative to Russian aggression hasn't worked. In fact, it's produced the opposite of the desired effect.

A perceived weakness in western democracies may well end up leading to a wider conflict, while also causing countries, currently without nukes, to consider acquiring them, as without it they cannot defend themselves against nuclear-armed dictatorships - a question previously irrelevant when the west provided effective defence to these countries.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong, and that Russia returns to its side of the border. But, unless the west decides to radically change it strategy towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this looks like turning into a wider conflict.

I suspect that the continual flow of body bags back to Russian mothers is slowly having a detrimental effect on Putin's Russia - it's over 70,000 Russian dead and even in a Russian population of 145 million it must be noticeable. If North Korea has sent 13,000 troops to assist then it's 13,000 less body bags going back to Russia. North Korea is a pariah State anyway and KIm Jong Un has his own Agenda and problems internationally and internally - it's a match made in Hell ....

Whether this will escalate to a wider conflict ? I don't know, I hope not and there's every reason to believe it won't, as there is too much to lose on all sides but, when you are dealing with two somewhat unhinged, unfettered, dictators with access to horrendous weapons ... things don't look too promising for the war against Ukraine.

It interests me as an atheist and qualified in biological sciences, that mankind has evolved into societies which have become tribal characterised by mutual aggression led by power-hungry dictators. Survival of the fittest is the obvious explanation but what a shame that Darwinian evolution didn't take a different path of mutual toleration and cooperation so that resources are not squandered on wars so that we all live in peace and harmony.
There's no doubt that mutual aggressive behaviour is built into our collective DNA - what a shame and waste.

that doesn't happen any more - they carry mobile crematoria around with them and I doubt they even send a matchbox full of dust back for mam to put on the mantelpiece for everyone to see.

I find it strange that the socialist philosophy is designed for the common good and equality between the citizens. These are the countries who ruthlessly pursue their agenda of attempting to overthrow neighbouring countries at any cost. Common good? Don't think so.................... Bully boy tactics the world over.

This was entirely predictable. Start of WWII all over again but Western governments largely bourgeois and lacking moral courage IMO.

You're wishing for values which are beyond nature. I'd recommend reading 'Dominion' by Tom Holland.

The problem is that we descended from the chimpanzee and not the bonobo.

The bonobo and the chimpanzee share a common ancestor, when the Congo River was formed, the populations were separated and specified. Because the population south of the Congo River had no problems accessing food, the population agreed to share food, thus emerging the social and calm character of the bonobo. In the north, food scarcity exacerbated a competitive nature characteristic of the chimpanzee and its subsequent evolution (the hominid).

From what I read many of the NK troops take the first opportunity to surrender so they get decent food and conditions rather than return to Kim's glorious state when it's over. 🤔

I think we may be the first species to die out as a result of mental illness.

Neither Russia or N Korea are in anyway socialist and have not been for decades.
N Korea is a dictatorship, it's population existing in a 1984 economy.
Russia is now a fascist country.
As is China.
A one party state using capitalism as it's economic model, is a fascist state.

One of my friends told me that a lot of that supposedly Ukraine honey is in fact chinese honey ( mainly from Gdansk port - where it gets label " Ukraine honey")..
But anyway our beekeeping is effectively destroyed with imports of false honey.. In shops at my place you can buy that false honey under label of " honey" in jar of 720 ml/950g - for 4.5 euros.. I cannot compete with that..
About war.. as I see 3rd world war started. Well, maybe our planet will get relief after we wipe each other with nukes. I don't plan to fight any war for anyone - for ideals are dying fools, as proven many times at my place..
