welcome to the forum, is it still covered in snow over there? we had a couple of days of snow this winter, apart from that it's been pretty mild.

nice looking veil / screen combo. is this your first attempt at making your own kit?

Not selling anything just showing a great idea . No today in Maine it was almost 60 and the bees were flying and I was putting on the sugar , life is good. I updated my profile . Here seeing you. Brian

I've seen 'veils' a bit like that on the Dadant site, and also on one of the European beekeeping sites too (can't remember which one) but nobody seems to sell anything like it here in UK.

The veil material seems to be different from what's sold here too, a bit more flexible. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Superficially its a great idea, as the awkwardness of the search for a running queen deep in a box with glare coming back off the mesh, thus needing to shade the face part a bit, would be avoided.

However................

On a hot humid day the air currents hitting the face are a great relief.....you keep cooler. (Maybe not an issue to those who keep only a few hives.)

You cannot give a little blow to the clusters of bees in and around 'popholes' especially those at the corners of the comb, to get the bees moving and see if the Q is hiding there.

Less easy to use your nose to reassure yourself that sick larva X is not sinister.

Smoker bit prone to going out today? (we all have such days) Then you cannot haul the fuel out and give it a blow to encourage it to a bit more life.

I do expect that these would be very much appreciated by some, but are not a thing that is going to widely replace the traditional mesh fronted veil.

I thought of that too, but with the same level of folly that has seen me make some, with hindsight, stupid purchases in the past, I just assumed they would be using the stuff that does not mist up.

If that were an issue there are plenty of anti fog coatings ( sprays, wipes etc..) for motorbike helmet visors that it could easily be solved.

I can also think of another problem.

The fat arse of a beekeeper may at times be a problem

First one I have made and a great success , now for popholes I will need to modify . With all the types of veils out there they would all have to be a little different. This 1st one does have a large shield but that is what I started with. I know that a clear view veil could be made to satisfy even a large outfit like yours . I fashioned this one in less than an hour and now I know there will have to bee some changes , perfection often takes two hours.

Could easily be designed to just cover eyes and have normal veil mesh for rest of face which would solve most problems mentioned
