Christmas presnts to self always a good idea. I was hoping to get that jam cooker/wax melter from Lidl for Christmas, but instead received jewellry. Ungrateful?

Talking about amazon, has anyone got and used a 'kindle'?

Are they as good as the hype? e-books seem to be cheaper than new hard copies.

Regards, RAB

RAB - personally, I don't think I'll ever be persuaded. We are the i-Pad at work for work realated functions, but I would miss the page turning and the whole tangible nature of a good book !

Ny nephew got one - I had a quick play and was more impressed with it than I expected to be. Crystal clear, rock-solid display and quite intuitive to use.

I'm thinking about getting one for my mother (who has poor vision) because of being able to enlarge the print - easier for her to handle than large-print books.

ebooks

for new releases there is little in it between paper and e copies - bit of a cheek since publishes always justify prices increases with cost of paper etc etc.

remember the kindle has epaper screen (like hi tec etch a sketch) - so long battery life but needs light to read by.

ipad - great bright screen. can read kindle books. and doesn't look like a kindle!!!! and it's an apple.

somerford - ipad lets you "flick" from page to page and is great for those with age related eyesight issues - clear, bright and easy to magnify.

I would go with the i-pad got one for my daughter and it is fantastic.

The iPad is completely different from the Kindle.

I knew of the development of this new technology they released this (oops, last) year some while and waited for the release.

Was VERY impressed by my mate's several months ago and when I asked whether he still liked it, he said definitely, used it every day and wouldn't do anything else for going to work.

I have to say, it is very simple to use (far superior than some of the other readers, though the old Sony is very well built, yet as usual relies on a OC and proprietary cabling) and very nice to read from.

I am a died in the wool literature graduate and work in media, but I can see myself getting one if only for going to and from work and taking on trips. Especially my big summerholiday, when I usually have to cram a minimum eight paperbacks into my bag and still end up reading them and a couple that my missus brought with her.

In addition to my previous post, I will be getting an iPad or similar tablet device as my employer is offering a sizeable amount towards me getting one. I have also been a Mac user for almost 20 years and have one as my main machine at work.

However, iPads cannot be read in any kind of sunlight very easily, as they have a reflective screen.

Reading them in a darkened room induces the same problems as viewing any screen, so the Kindle beats it hands down.

Well i'm not,so what is the difference between died in the wool, and dyed in the wool.

The i-pad 2 is due out in a couple of months, might be worth waiting.

All a matter of tense. Just don't get too tense or it will colour your judgement and kill you.

Micro Mart - End of year report 2010 - Mark Pickavance :svengo:

Very soon, a small tsunami of Android-driven pads are going to hit the retail shelves, many of them addressing the very obvious flaws that Apple intentionally put in the iPad, It will be interesting to see how Apple reacts when a market it effectively created overtakes its products so rapidly. I just hope it doesn't end in a typical Apple relex response through its legal department, because some of the competitors chose to have the letter "i" in their product names.
= = =
More open wallet surgery by Apple on their faithful customer base to come then.

The Kindle is at a very good price point, not colour, but well fit for purpose with an excellent battery life, by all reports.

The number of tenses in a language may be disputed, because the term tense is often construed to represent any combination of tense proper, aspect, and even mood (tense-aspect-mood). In many texts the term "tense" may erroneously indicate qualities of uncertainty, frequency, completion, duration, possibility, and even whether information derives from experience or hearsay

Do you prefer your sheep dead or alive Hombre,or died,or dyed....in the wool.

I prefer them dead HiveMaker, with mint sauce or rosmary, on a Sunday.

Surprisingly enough I'm not too fussed if they are dyed before or after they have died, but logically before.

You are obviously not feeling too tense tonight, but certainly starting to get the hang of talking in riddles yourself. Don't take me too seriously. LoL
I think with your explanation of tense, it might make me a bit tense trying to keep up. I submit, you win :)

Back to the bees in just about two months now. :)

Mea maxima culpa. What an awful typo. I was sure i hit a Y, but there you go.

Thanks for pointing it out, HM.

Now thats a nice thought.

Did you know they are not fussy about thier sheep in new zealand, the land where the men are men, and the sheep are worried, dyed or died...in the wool,or not.

Now thats a nice thought.

Could be a realist/pessimist and say it could be as much as three and a half months......

Certainly hope not, but last year was into April, really, and the previous year it was the middle of February. Just depends on how Mother Nature feels at the time, I expect.
