No landing boards here a massive cock up by Paynes, waste of space on the vehicle. If I had one, the saw would be out.

Nope, I like landing boards, my bees seem to like them judging by the amount seen taking the evening air or sunning themselves warming up before 1sy morning flight.
Easier landing, particularly in winter when they can struggle to get home.
I can appreciate the space issue if I was moving 100s of hives. But I'm not, so footprint is not a big issue for me. Only issue is direction of straps.
