Would love to come for a heckle:icon_204-2:

Didn't know he was on the after dinner speakers circuit now, will have to see if he is available for our post AGM lecture not worthy

It's a test run tonight - may be more of a picture show than anything else
but not powerpoint!

It's no use, you have to get up to speed.... Powerpoint is the norm now - even five year olds at school are putting it all together on PP ... Much as I hate Microsoft, PP is one of the better programs they have (mind you ... they didn't develop it - they bought it from Forethought and it was developed by Austin and Rudkin, originally for the Mac, which probably explains why it's so good ...).

You are probably in mid flow by now so I'll wish you a belated break a leg with the performance - hope it all goes well !

How true!!!!
My sister teaches five year olds to code!
Where's the falling down smiley?

:laughing-smiley-014:laughing-smiley-014:willy_nilly:

My wife teaches five year olds who teach HER to use the computers they have at school ... and complain that they are not touch screen technology .... precocious little monsters !

But ... it used to be said that if you needed someone to teach you to use the VCR recorder then find a 15 year old kid ... sadly, now, if you want someone to teach you to use your phone or other media device... find a five year old !!

Great evening, everyone was enthralled and thoroughly enjoyed. JBM did very well and had us totally captivated even without power point

I've used powerpoint - firearms lectures especially (but then it's mostly a vehicle for pictures) but IMHO it's a blight on public speaking - I've seen too many intersting speakers with interesting subjects turn their talks into mind numbing slogs thanks to powerpoint. A bog standard slideshow was fine for me tonight - I use it as my trigger notes. Next ferw might be a challenge (no visual aids available), and I've got an after dinner speech booked for November. All these in Welsh

Well done ... if it works, don't fix it ...I would imagine that your photos of Lesotho and accompanying narrative didn't need PP.

But there's some benefit to using PP properly and I totally agree that there's some morons who spend hours making PP dance and sing and end up completely losing the sense and focus of the subject they are trying to get across amongst all the bells and whistles ..

But what I like about it is the ability to order the visual aspects of what you are presenting and move the slides about, along with their titles, be able to insert a variety of different media and graphics formats without compatibilty issues and add videos and scanned images so that you can create a seamless presentation, with the ability to go back or forwards or jump to a specific slide without the tedium of flicking through everything that is before what you want to get to. I'm old enough to have cut my teeth on carousel slide projectors, 16mm film and OHP - and it was sometimes a real nightmare skipping from one to another with the inevitable delays in between. PP eliminated all that ...

but I only ever use it as a backdrop and visual aid, never as the sole source of information - and you are right, I've witnessed PP presentations where the presenter might as well have not been there !

Anyway, as long as you have an English version, I reckon there's a career ahead for you !! DO you need an Agent/Manager ???

I just read this thread and would love to learn more about beekeeping in Lesotho.
Bees for Development offer Bee Safaris, although the dates don't suit at the moment, since I think they're a worthwhile cause to support

Well - you've got the world expert on beekeeping in Lesotho just up the road from you ... JenkinsBrynmair of Lesotho ! He's too modest to tell you himself ...

All this talk of PowerPoint... you might as well say that there is only one way to keep bees or that you can only have one tool in your shed (a hammer?). For this reason, many professional speakers have moved away from it. People see a screen set up and start yawning. The real problem is that there are a lot of very poor presenters (lack of experience/training or just plain boring people) out there.

(I speak as someone who has given >1,000 presentations... most without PowerPoint, but lots with.)
