Is this a queen?

A clipped queen situation is not the 'normal'. They likely swarmed a week previous. It may well have been a casf swarm with the old queen caught up in it. As I said - normally....

A clipped queen is normal, except she cannot fly. Highly improbable they swarmed a week previous, unless a virgin led that prime swarm out, as clipped queen was present in hive day before. I was just too late on my return next day...the complications of work.
Lindaeur found up to 7 or 8 virgins in some prime swarms he studied. Many of us (myself included) would miss a virgin being present in prime swarm as the queen is a more obvious target and few would then consider looking further for a virgin after they have seen a queen.
No it's not in every prime swarm, but is more common than people imagine.

Update on my queen question, she is now looking like a "real" queen - nice elongated body and she is calmer/less shy. Does this mean she is now mated? Weather has not been great of late - rain and wind so maybe no mating flights? I'm asking as I checked the hive yesterday - two weeks since housing the swarm, and there is no sign off her laying. I guess it's early days?

new queens often dont lay if there is no flow on, but i would worry yet, you could try feeding a little light syrup in a contact feeder just to see if that spurs her on

Yes I have fed to encourage the swarm to draw comb. They have stored that syrup! There is a little pollen going i not the hive too. I'm not too worried at this stage. Thanks for reply.
