I want to put a new nuc of bees into a deep national. Obviously if I simply go ahead they'll make a load of wasted brace comb . Any ideas how to go about this?

Too many - but not nearly enough
I would just put the nuc in a full hive, surrounded by 14x12 frames, once drawn, start working the deeps out to the edges and replace when empty of brood. Yes, they will build brace comb off the bottom bars on the deeps, but that's no big deal, just be careful when inspecting as that comb may be a bit more fragile
