it was a big gaping hole in the dogs chest (barb wire accident)
Just the sort of wound you NEVER suture.
Good job he had the honey......

I have had many a pooch stitched over the years Erica , anything 50p size is ok and maybe a bit bigger, most chest wounds from barb are usually bigger and if stitched properly with a drain inserted they usually heal in around 10/12 day's if they are left to heal themselves it can take anything upto 4/5wks. ;)

As one of the pioneers in Apitherapy were Romania and Bulgaria. As I learned from my mentor and some other friends beeks Dr. Stojmir Mladenov is respected name in Apitherapy..
But if I mention at my place that there is one beekeeper with excellent practice such Michael Palmer ( I hope Mr. Palmer won't take me harm for mentioning him), 99,99% beeks at my place would say.. Who knows who is he, some non existing person from internet or what one American knows aobut beekeeping..
Now when I mentioned Mr. Palmer, I remembered Mr. Charles Mraz, maybe closer comparation would be?

You make a fair comparison regarding fame, Goran. As I said though I only did a 'very quick' Google of this Dr. to see what evidence supports his 'claims' and could not find any. He may be respected in Bulgaria etc. for his apitherapy, but over here is customary to have hard scientific evidence before the claims are substantiated. Although this is not an attemt to 'bebunk' this Dr., I would simply like to see the evidence for myself on claims that honey taken internally 'balances' or 'restores balance' to various endocrine systems, which appears to be the case on this web site. "Reduces cholesterol" by eating sugar! Hmmm! If you know of any 'papers' that do this, I would be glad if you could post their shortcuts though, so we can read up on this potentially interesting subject.( the wonder of honey to heal externally is not in question from me as there is enough evidence to support these sort of claims already.) Appreciate your efforts in advance. Regards Dave:)

Hi, last Saturday I was on lectures. As one part of lectures was about Apitherapy, which was presented by one dr.med. prim mr. sc. respected at my place. He tried to squeeze a lot of interesting theory and practice in short time. He also mentioned that it is proven with usage of honey high blood pressure is decreased for 10-20%, also that it regulate pressure ( which is lower bring it in balance). He also showed what he has from his practice ( curing decubitis, open wounds, burns) before and after the treatment with honey balms).
Next weekend I should attend one more whole day lecture, I believe even he won't be one of lecturers he will be present. If you want, if I meet him there I can ask question for you?

Regards,
Goran.

Hi Goran
Thanks for the offer. If you could find out where the 'evidence' is for the claims about lowering blood pressure for instance (that is where on the internet etc. ) then that would be very useful. I'm sure there must be others on this forum that find this interesting as a subject now it has been claimed to be a fact on the web page. I look forward to your answer when you have had time to retrieve the information. Till then
Kind regards dave:)

When I looked what kind of things reduce blood pressure, my hairs rised up, and perhaps never settle down.

Real Black Magic.

Even Lord helps only those who helps themselves. But what Lord knows about blood pressure? I suspect.

Now I am interested as much as you. Long ago I read one book of dr Stojmir Mladenov where I think read such statements also. So for 7 days I hope will have some answers for you and me after lectures.
By the way, as in the line of your writting that is true, which also my parents learned me: It isn't important what is said, it is more important who said it.

Regards,
Goran.

There was no such a winter when I did not get sick. Normally I got sick 2-3 times a winter. Flue, cold, angina …anything. This winter is the first one in my life when I did not get sick yet. Thank you, row and real honey.
it looks like you never heard of the main wound healing compound of the honey, guys ;) The hydrogen peroxide, off course. Look in wiki or any other encyclopedia you trust on it`s properties and effects.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey
Why, do you think, it` so difficult to make a mead/pochin out of a fresh honey? :) All recipes I came across recommend boiling honey with water befor you put a yeast in it ( in the cooled down solvent of course)
. Why ? Because its pretty difficult for the yeast to multiply in a bactericidal environment. Boiling increases neutralization rate of hydrogen peroxide, methilglioxal, and enzymes due to chemical reaction with the other honey compounds. It happens with the age of honey also ( that`s how you get fermented honey if it was kept for too long in a hive at a favorite temperature for the yeast).Boiling just speeds cemical reactions up. Unfortunately many essential oils( also very strong bactericide( remember thym oil /thymol ;) ) also go away. That`s where different tricks have to be applied to reduce this bad side effects of thermal treating .

I wonder if you ever came across the wonderfull Robert Louis Stevenson Ballad

HEATHER ALE
A GALLOWAY LEGEND

From the bonny bells of heather
They brewed a drink long-syne,
Was sweeter far than honey,
Was stronger far than wine.
They brewed it and they drank it,
And lay in a blessed swound
For days and days together
In their dwellings underground.

There rose a king in Scotland,
A fell man to his foes,
He smote the Picts in battle,
He hunted them like roes.
Over miles of the red mountain
He hunted as they fled,
And strewed the dwarfish bodies
Of the dying and the dead.

Summer came in the country,
Red was the heather bell;
But the manner of the brewing
Was none alive to tell.
In graves that were like children's
On many a mountain head,
The Brewsters of the Heather
Lay numbered with the dead.

The king in the red moorland
Rode on a summer's day;
And the bees hummed, and the curlews
Cried beside the way.
The king rode, and was angry,
Black was his brow and pale,
To rule in a land of heather
And lack the Heather Ale.

It fortuned that his vassals,
Riding free on the heath,
Came on a stone that was fallen
And vermin hid beneath.
Rudely plucked from their hiding,
Never a word they spoke:
A son and his aged father -
Last of the dwarfish folk.

The king sat high on his charger,
He looked on the little men;
And the dwarfish and swarthy couple
Looked at the king again.
Down by the shore he had them;
And there on the giddy brink -
"I will give you life, ye vermin,
For the secret of the drink."

There stood the son and father
And they looked high and low;
The heather was red around them,
The sea rumbled below.
And up and spoke the father,
Shrill was his voice to hear:
"I have a word in private,
A word for the royal ear.

"Life is dear to the aged,
And honour a little thing;
I would gladly sell the secret,"
Quoth the Pict to the King.
His voice was small as a sparrow's,
And shrill and wonderful clear:
"I would gladly sell my secret,
Only my son I fear.

"For life is a little matter,
And death is nought to the young;
And I dare not sell my honour
Under the eye of my son.
Take him, O king, and bind him,
And cast him far in the deep;
And it's I will tell the secret
That I have sworn to keep."

They took the son and bound him,
Neck and heels in a thong,
And a lad took him and swung him,
And flung him far and strong,
And the sea swallowed his body,
Like that of a child of ten; -
And there on the cliff stood the father,
Last of the dwarfish men.

"True was the word I told you:
Only my son I feared;
For I doubt the sapling courage
That goes without the beard.
But now in vain is the torture,
Fire shall never avail:
Here dies in my bosom
The secret of Heather Ale."

Honey is 75% Sugar.

As you know, European Union has forbidden to advertise honey as healthy stuff, if there is no scientifc proves about named things, what you are going to heal.

Most ointments are 95% Vaseline

I did not suggest, imply or otherwise state the proof value of the alcohol I consume but any gin under 40 proof is dishwater..

To be closer in theme, we usually use 96% ethyl alcohol for propolis tincture ( higher level of extraction).

For drinking alcohol, we use to make 44-50% brandy/schnapps of plum, pear..

Good mead requires good nutrients for yeast growth .uploadfromtaptalk1454285966502.jpg

Yep, true. Good stuff, deanrpwaacs. Good way to make a mead without any heating involved. But diammonium phosphate (DAP) plays here both roles: it neutralizes hydrogen peroxide, and provides yeast with ammonia and oxygen for a grow boost:
(NH4)2HPO4+3H2O2=>2H2O+2NH3OH+H3PO4+O2
;)
