Got a present of 2 large honey settling tanks +filters they are tinplate (i think)
are they suitable for purpose nowadays, have always used food grade plastic

Magnets will not stick to them. They are in perfect condition

sounds liek stainless to me - picturers would help immensely

agree, stainless steel will not hold a magnet but a photo will help immensely

i now use stainless steel in stead of food grade plastic as i have found the plastic scores if cleaned to hard

Chinese stainless will attract a magnet... and rusts!:icon_204-2:

I was lucky with our settling tank, I bought it over 20 years ago, although we gave up beekeeping I never sold this tank. Its a 400Kg one Stainless Steel. It would cost a small fortune to purchase now, I think I paid about £85 for it when I purchased it.

Here are two photos. Second one is of the joint in the lid.
