Been reading Tim Spector’s book ‘Food for life. The new science of eating well’. Highly recommend.
He’s been a fan of Vit D for last 25 years but now states since he’s been involved in a lot more studies the supplement has no effect on the risk of fractures. He does say 15 mins in the sun is much better.
I wonder how many agree with him?
Then there’s sunshine and sunshine. Some weeks I don’t see any. How much of our body do we have to expose?
For women, oestrogen is more/equally important?

does anyone believe that vitamin D is going to cure a broken leg?

Maybe - but half a dozen days a year when this is possible is going to do nothing, in fact I don't think 15 minutes in the sun every day is going to generate much vit D, especially as, the weather comparisons I seem to find are for places like Minnesota midsummer where it's a tad warmer than here.
And clad in nothing but a pair of speedos!

Precisely. You need to expose a lot of skin too.
Children as well are slathered in factor 50 to prevent skin cancer.
Tasmania has powerful sun compared to the UK. We are more like Corsica, being about the same latitude south of the equator as it is north, but we have the clearest air in the world.....look at our deficiency and the required sun......
Kids are ok apparently as they play outside.
I knew of someone here taking 25000 IU a day to boost their levels.

Menzies Institute here has done a fair bit of research into it.
