Hello,
I am looking at getting started in beekeeping, very impressed with this forum. I have a large garden with fields nearby. I think I will get two hives and populate them in spring(going by advice in books)

I think id like to get new hives, the National type seems the obvious choice. Can anyone suggest a good supplier of hives for me please? Im prepared to build it from a flat pack.

Thanks

Whoa!:)
Books are fine but bees don't read them :svengo:
There's nowt wrong with enthusiasm but I advise you do a little research !
A little hands on experience before you spend loads of cash !
You may not get on with bees !
I think you ought to visit your local beekeeping association , get to know a few beeks ! Find yourself a mentor amongst them .
You may find spare equipment for sale + local bees .
Local bees are always appreciated as some crosses between locals and exotics can throw up some anti social bees that pay no heed to ASBOs ;).
Now that's out of the way . welcome to the forum, I hope you turn out to be an excellent beekeeper and enjoy a life time amongst the bees !
Regarding Hives . Hive maker on this forum makes the best (You won't get them flat pack off him , he prides himself on the finished product)

Hi Gatley

John is giving you excellent advice about starting bee keeping - if you contact a branch of the Cornwall Bee keeper's Assn or West Cornwall Bee keepers they will be able to give you advice about keeping bees and some of the groups have regular apiary meetings during the summer where you can go along (usually they have a spare suit) and see what is involved before you actually take up keeping bees. They both have website addresses.

best wishes

:iagree:

And if you are going to the Royal Cornwall Show next week, pop into the Cornwall Beekeepers' Tent and chat to some of the old hands in there - they will be full of great advice not only on bee keeping, but also on bee acquisition!

Hi Gatly

I live at Rosudgeon near Marazion, Penzance. Nice to see someone in the same position to myself not to far away!

Let me know if you progress to bee keeping and how its going.
