On the B&Q website, they say they will do 15 cuts for free but you have to go to the stores to read the terms and conditions that apply..

All of the stores that I have been to offer this service, although my nearest local one seems to be eternally out of order! The idea is that they will cut it to help you transport large sheet materials home, but NOT to help with your project. They advertise a maximum of X cuts (I thought it was only 5, but it could be as many as 15) but I have certainly had more than that and I stood behind a man a few weeks ago who must have had at least 50 cuts on a sheet of ply. Unless there is a queue around the shop, or you happen to get the B&Q resident 'jobsworth' they are largely very flexible.

B&Q not helping with your project is with regard to accuracy and is to protect themselves, but I have had people use a bit of scrap to verify an accurate set up before now. I am happy to do most of the work, but just need the dimensions to be square and within the scope of my situation, tooling and ability.

Pete,
I thank you and will give Merrick & Heath a whirl, after checking the B&Q prices on my way past. Rolf Street isn't a direction that I go in very often, but it's less than a couple of miles away from the family shopping in Oldbury. A telephone call is very close and convenient too.

I remember the Oldbury establishment when it was Birmingham Boards, it sounded more down to earth - It's a shame that they don't have a smaller saw for fast jobs and little guys like me.

free cuts

Homebase state theirs is a "get you home" service with 3 free cuts. 50p each thereafter. Like B&Q though, if you're nice to the non-jobsworth you should be ok!!!!
