Graham Sutherland: The Bees Suite

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for information about the artist Graham Sutherland. He produced a series of lithographs known as the 'Bees Suite' (example below).

What I'd like to know is why he produced this series of prints? They suggest that he had an intimate knowledge of beekeeping. But I haven't been able to find any reference to say that he was in deed a beekeeper. Did anybody know Sutherland or know where I can find a reference to these prints? Would love to hear from you.

Hi Poly Hive,

Believe me I've googled and googled. But so far there's nothing about why Sutherland was actually interested in bees. I've emailed a couple of galleries now in the hope that they may have reference to the 'Bees Suite'.
