Largest shareholder of Tesco is BlackRock, Inc an American company

Hardly makes it an American conglomerate as Blackrock have a mere 6.6% of the shares closely followed by Norges Bank (Norwegian?).

Methinks that Jenkins was thinking of another uk supermarket chain that was taken over by Wallmart.

They all have the same ethics - or lack of, poor staff treatment, the customer is there to be milked and the supplier to be manipulated and fleeced. Mamon is the only thing to be revered.

I only use sugar to feed bees. Everything else uses MY British honey. :)

Yes, some will only feed using cane sugar as they have some notion that beet sugar is bad for them.

"Beet sugar rots your teeth and contains Strontium!".... in one of the beginners books on beekeeping!

Cane sugar is recommended by some of the beekeeping books written in the past century and used by the current crop of BBKA beekeeping " teachers"

However I bielieve that the" invert"... made in Belgium is produced from beet sugar!

The myth about beet sugar being bad for bees was just good old protectionism generated as soon as the second world war ended and the British reverted to their usual Xenophobia and were clutching at the tattered remnants of 'Empire' (that's a fresh quote from 2016 mind you not 1947!! - I wonder what triggered that?) the usual vested interests were trying to convince the great unwashed to turn their backs on readily available, reasonably priced sugar produced on the continent by johnny foreigner but instead should continue to pay profiteer prices for cane sugar traditionally produced by British slaves in the British empire.:unionsmilie:
The theory was totally rubbished by Manley in his book 'Beekeeping in Britain'
which, in his words was written as a guide for amateurs and beginners. Obviously this book must be on the BBKA black list - probably because he pokes fun at the tweed clad cottage 'expert' and the obsession with 'spring cleaning' matchsticks and the likes :D

Doing what like like to call "manipulations" all through the summer, at least the poor little creatures get some respite from this obsession during the winter months and are left in peace..

Yes...its written in some old texts and indeed in some official advice...I think the last documents promoting that belief were from maybe the 1980's.

Classic examples of bee related factoids. Was never true.

And the stuff from both main producers in Germany (Api Invert and Ambrosia.) is also beet derived, although I think one of the vendors would tell you it was made from magic fungi found only on the moon Miranda, or....only from organically cultured non GM beet raised at 1200m above sea level on a remote Welsh hillside and hand picked by druid priestesses, if they thought it would sell more and make the competition look bad.

What happens next in sugar politics of EU. It has taken sugar quotas off, and a country can produce 2018 so much sugar as they like.

In the world 80% out of sugar consumption has been cane sugar but in EU 80% has been cane sugar for political reasons.

Dribbling mashed sugar beet will be the new answer to varroa control.
Feed and treat!
Will only be legal in UK after Brexit as rest of Europe will be carteled and bullied into importing solely cane sugar by their wise political leaders who, of course, gain no financial benefit from screwing their general public.

Coca cola may work too. Its pH is same as in lemon, 2.5

Is that diet cola or the full sugar variety?
Rhubarb leaves are "so old hat"..... everyone is using them...time to stand out from the crowd and be different.

OMG... I have not touched a drop of Cocoa Cola* since I was informed that it was a very good spermicidal prophalactic but did not give much protection against STDs during my brief period working in a "Special Clinic"... the little back door at the back of the NHS Hospital I trained at!!!:icon_204-2:

Grandfathers advice was never to put anything into your hive you would not put in your mouth!!

* there are other cola drinks that do not contain phosphoric acid... and the Diet stuff contains Aspertame......

I think I will stick with the old school... old hat rhubarb leaves ... an early crop is creaking away in the pollytunnell as we sit here reading this rubbish!!
