We have to have a licence for all vans, trucks and trailers in our local dump, they are very strict as well, i have had to sign a few disclaimers even with the licence !! which if the waste was found to come from a different address form the one on the licence i could be fined £20.000, and they look through your waste to check what you are dumping, certain things are not allowed to be dumped even there, having said that i have a funny feeling someone will dump a few boxes on my drive way next week:spy:

Are the rag trade renowned for illegal tipping then?

Some councils would most likely only let unemployed people get rid of thier old clothes at the council tip, as the clothes worn by anyone who works would be classed as business refuse.

We must of got one that is not too concerned about it then, take pickups/landrover with trailer full of rubbish into the local council skips with no problems at all, and there are plenty of others, including with vans doing the same. Not much of a problem with fly tipping here either.
Around here the nearest tip is just over the borough boundary. Only about 500m but nearer than the one at the other end of the borough. So they demanded proof of residency and the mattresses started appearing at the road side this side of the boundary. Then they started charging their residents and mattresses started appearing their side too. So it wasn't worth paying someone to collect money because it wasn't being used and the site closed to the public.

Problem solved as far as that council department are concerned. Actually, it has just transferred the problem elsewhere. But that's "Someone Else's Budget", the title of a book length rant I'll get around to writing one day.

Our council tip is brilliant. When I drive up people swarm out to empty the boot.
When I lived in the London Suburbs nobody would help with heavy stuff even if you asked them to.

This is what you get when you divide people. We should be as one. Simples:hurray:

One, working for all.

MP says......................

Oh but that wouldn't do, my nephew needs a job.

We call 'em thieves round our way.......:paparazzi:

I dont like going to the tip.

I see too many things that could be repaired and sold. Just throwing stuff away because they want a colour change in the kitchen.

Wife stopped taking clothes to charity shop. Theres a place up the road where they pay you for them by weight.

most tips are council owned but private ran, anyone can put in a for running them that's why they don't like construction waste unless you pay. check out you local tenders.

Singapore increases its territory on a day by day basis as they build up and extend their coast line dumping rubbish in the ocean. Do you have any similar program guys?
Is there any need in volunteers collecting rubbish in different locations? As some countries AFAIK go this way to deal with the problem, hiring volunteers even in the schools.

The problem is that councils started charging for furniture removal where once it was free, not everyone has transport to take a trip to the local amenity site so they pay a man with a van to dispose of it. I had to apply for a permit for my van and still had a problem trying to off load off cuts of wood into a recycle skip for clean wood, the council does not help with increasing demands on people to recycle when all you get is rejection from amenity sites.
There is big money to be made on recycled materials and it's about time councils gave the money back to the rate payers.

Is this something peculiar to your local council, or is it that some others just don't enforce such loony ideas.

'Deaf' ERYC (East Riding Council) demand that I apply for a permit for my van (I'm an employee not a business owner) or I can't use the tip.

The local Freecycle group declined my application - with no reason given :banghead:

Same near us. Anyone with a van or trailer has to PROVE they are not a business and then get a permit anyway .

Seems like some councils are just putting obstacles in the way to deter people from getting rid of rubbish.

This will make you laugh, when we were moving house a few years ago, I have a workshop full of trade waste paint tins, plasterboard, bricks etc, i tried to order a skip, they asked what was going in it, when i mentioned paint they said no, you will have to take that to a tip that takes hazardous waste !! so i phoned the council to ask where the nearest one was, over 50 miles away in Weymouth was the answer, is there not one a bit closer i asked, no he said, but if i were you i would put all the paint tins in black bags, fill the van up with them and the night before the next dustbin collection day, take them to a different street not your own street and put them with other peoples bin bags a couple at a time !!!! he did say not to tell anyone about this conversation, not surprising fly tipping goes on as much as it does, i took all the paint tins with me in the end.

Not much space in existing landfill*, somebody pointed out. Or at least those convenient to the big cities. Reduce landfill => tax per tonne going to tip => charge => fly tipping => reduce tax take, increase inconvenience for all.

* another topic, but hard to get planning permission for new quarries => we're not just importing the exotic stuff like marble but slate from China, sandstone from India and so it goes.

I often pass stuff dumped in the lanes on my way to work. Happens so often that I have stopped getting annoyed by it unless it actually blocks the road. Have also collected quite a bit of useful wood, brick, log etc from these.
Its mainly builders and gardeners/tree surgeons who do not want to pay for getting rid of waste so simply dump it in the most convenient quiet lane.

You can't drive around without passing fly tipped badgers round here, farmers want to get shot of them but are wary of the stiff fines if they're found buried on the farm.
