That's amazing. It shows that in the UK over a 9 year period only 4 cases of fatal anaphylactic shock were attributed to bee stings. That's about 1 case every two years.

Epipens are not without risks. I asked my doctor about one for a different allergy. He pointed out that if you hit a blood vessel with one that you will be dead very quickly.

Contacted my Doctor and explained I wanted to be a responsible beekeeper
He gave me prescription
You're teasing right? Your doctor gave you a prescription for you to give adrenaline to other people as a first aider who normally can only give out Aspirin at a push? Name and shame this idiot - s/he should be struck off!

what is it with bee keepers and flippin epi pens, every year we have loads of threads and people saying blah blah blah, i will get/doctor will give me/i have brought/i want to carry, blah blah responsible beekers must carry, blah blah

why not go to the next step and buy a needle of morphine as well just incase a shark bites your leg off whilst swimming in the sea??and some smack just in case i twitch one afternoon.

any one who professess to any form of medicial training would know one how dangerous epi pens can be and two would have the knowledge and training to not need to carry one in the first place. what is it with people thinking its ok to carry and WANT TO USE POM under the banner of beekeepers

in the uk the chances of bee incurred deaths are ridiculasly small. again more chances with the shark than bees proberly

also i have know several people with extream sensive or alligies to bee stings,
heres their simple tip, wear the correct clothing, decent gloves, a well fitting head set and operate both brain cells at the same time, carfully work with the bees, and you will reduce the chances of being stung to percentages so small even belives in the great epi pen in the sky will think twice.

i know of several beekeepers that dont get stung all year and have not done for years.

i personally see any one who obtains an epi pen without having COMFIRMED BEE ALLERGIES and or medical reason and there fore a registerd use for an epi in the same light as a drug dealer and smack in a needle walking the streets of brum.

i have explained to many people like this,i have had the great unfortunutly to meet who are worshshipers of the great epi pen,

that even if i was badly stung and they bimbled towards me with their beloved epi pen i would and will ram it down there throats rather than allow it to be used on me.

and as for monster sticky about epi pens, why not make a cup of tea a few bickkies and your beloved epi pen and read what has all ready been done to death many many times

rant over soap box away, big hugs and love to the world, sorry but some of us get to hear this EVERY YEAR repetedly and it does get very very ircksome.

and lastly if we do ever meet at an apiary just remember, hedgie +epi pen=very sore nose!!

love to all

I did a half day course once...

so I guess I'm trained as a first aider.

I'm firmly with Pete on this one, I just wish he'd said it straight rather than pussyfooting around it.

sorry peeps, well raw nerve

why do people think its nesacerry to buy controlled drugs and then want to jab people with them, just because they think i might need it??
sorry it just blows my head out, every year the same situation

" hello i am a perfectly normal person. i have just brought into bee keeping, now i wish to buy controlled drugs and randomly inject people as i have just become a drug injector. as for training, i have watched a video on you tube and i now a certified genius when it comes to dealing with anni shock, i think i shall also buy and randomly use, smack and heroin and for a laugh i shall also pop valliums to people who might need it,, morphene anyone??"

this is why i spent days writing a maoooooooooohsive sticky on anni shock to help peeps if they need it. none of which apart from one poster did anyone even mention it let alone suggest they had read it??

in all my years of beekeeping and we are talking well over 30 years, i have only ever once condisered an epi pen might of been usefull to me. but that was after rotoring through a massive wasp nest , whilst wearing shorts and not realising for a good 4 seconds what i had done, according to the quack at the hospital i had a recorded 50 + stings on my person, BUT EVEN WITH AN 999 CALL AND ANAMBALENCE TRIP I WAS STILL NOT GIVEN THE beloved epi pen.

if you really need an epi pen, they are the most fantastic things in the world a cardboard tube that saves lives in a second, to everyone else its a massively risky situation that some "helpfull " person is going to try to kill you with.

please feel free to read the sticky and think about what you wish to do

ANNI SHOCK,the sticky!!

Had a chat with my GP when I started beekeeping. He said that he would not use an epipen as the statistics show you are ten times more likely to die as a result of the adrenalin than of the anaphylactic shock.

Just took a super off some very angry bees, about fifty stings on my leather gloves (only used for honey collection), not a one got through. I agree good technique along with good protective clothing is the best policy.

I'm sure I read somewhere that beekeeps are more likely to be in A&E through falling off a ladder collecting a swarm than a sting. :)
