My favourite line from Haynes was many many years ago when the half shaft on my Austin Healey broke and the Haynes Manual said "Undo the four set screws holding the half shaft to the hub and withdraw the half shaft".

Two days later ... with a 12lb slide hammer, gallons of easing oil, an oxyacetylene torch, three mates holding the other side of the car down and a lot of brute force - it finally gave in and withdrew.
