I agree wholeheartedly, I don't have a problem with people messing around with light hearted banter but as a father who is very proud of his gay son, I find the increase in persecution in Russia very disturbing.

My first reaction was to post something angry. Fortunately I didn't because I think most of the posters' replies were actually better than that in that they treated the idea for what it is: ludicrous, stupid, ridiculous and discriminatory. My impression wasn't that they're agreeing or approving such a lunatic idea. (But yes, I too think it's best removed - it should never have appeared here.)

It's in "off topic chat", we can discuss anything we want here, I'm sorry for you if you find people dealing with serious issues in a jovial manner offensive, but it's a common coping strategy, brings uncomfortable issues to light and let's us discuss things without being too precious.
Surely chatting about such subjects is better than an embargo?

As I said in my post I have no problem with 'banter' , it's just people being silly. It's when it turns into something less palatable that's the problem which is happening in Russia at the moment.
I think that the poster was just pointing out how stupid they are, you would think Putin would have more pressing problems than persecuting a minority???

I know quite a few gays, what with my daughter being in the entertainment business and have always find them to be just like you and me. My wife's brother was gay, again a nice guy and can't see any reason why the Russians would stop them driving.
