On the subject of Covid-19, the dust man told me 'that's a bit drastic'! Had to explain I was a beekeeper. So you never know, white beesuit and you may arrive with police escort.

Even that is fraught with danger ...

Which of these dresses do you prefer ?

I don't know I like them both .. what do you think ?

Well I like this one .

Yes so do I ..

You are just agreeing with me ...

Don't you CARE how I look ?

Same if you have spent some time with other cultures/social norms and are daydreaming in the shop....

'does my bum look big in this?'

'oh yes dear, most definitely!'

Doh!

Acrylic screens

In respect of the CVB post about re-use of acrylic screens, I think I saw an item from Tesco about how much they have reduced the plastic in their products.

Perhaps they may wish to donate redundant acrylic screens to the local beekeepers ?

I'm following all the advice but this just adds to an already worrying time. No idea of the circumstances but all the more worrying when I see people ignoring rules on social distancing. Our neighbours farm their little one out to parents while he drills walls, they walk him home in a push chair.

Guy on the corner, a hundred yards or so from our house died three days ago.

Starting to hear of lots of people succumbing, its all very sad.
My daughter , son-in-law and grandson in Glos. currently have the virus, they are all okay to varying degrees but from the regular (daily) Facetime contact its a real pig of a bug. Their doctor and NHS are being absolute stars as even though they are at home and not in hospital they are keeping an eye on them.
My son works as a senior manager at one of the main London hospitals and is dealing with the bereaved, death certificates and morgues. He called today to tell me of the stigma some religions have about having 'Corvid 19' on the death certificates and how several middle eastern countries will not have citizens bodies back if this is given as a cause!

It would seem though that some have the believe that they are immune, its just like flu or in my view fxxxg idiots!

My neighbour had her elderly mother around to see the grand kids last week and yesterday her brother-in law popped in to borrow some tools from her husbands tool shed. Her husband is busy as a contractor fitting out hospitals around the county at present.
A holiday let close to one of my out apiaries has a regular turn over of visitors, most in vehicles suggesting they are not health care workers.

I know there is a lot of discussions about wearing face masks and as usual HMG are trying to dodge the information, so I asked a doctor friend for advice. He pointed me to this website http://www.fast.ai/2020/04/13/masks-summary/
Keep safe

Just had an update on one of my colleagues who has spent the last two weeks in ICU he's back home now recuperating.
This man is built like a Dieppe submarine pen, the team don't bother carrying battering rams, they just forget to tell him to stop walking. at the moment he's so weak he can hardly handle a cup of tea and walking from the sofa to the table is a Herculean task

Indeed.
My sisters mother-in-law lived alone. She had a fall so was admitted to hospital. She caught the virus and died.
Simple things that the elderly would normally recover from quite easily have become killers.

My mother died 2 weeks ago after a 5 year fight with pancreatic cancer. Yesterday my fathers care home rang to say they have a confirmed case, he’s bed bound after a massive stroke 4 and a half years ago been tough all around.

Oh Ian I am so sorry

It's a terrible time, one of my best friends lost her mother a few days ago, not only can we not go and visit to comfort her, we also can't attend the funeral.
My mother who caught Covid before the lockdown and is still struggling to shake it had to have the doctor over last Monday as, to cap it all, the inaction of being isolated in her flat has brought on cellulitis, doctor said he was reluctant to hospitalise her and mam (bearing in mind this is the daughter of a man who once split his head open so badly I could see his skull and just told me 'for god's sake boy, just stick a bandage on it, a couple of paracetamols I'll be fine in the morning') just told him she had no intention of going in to be a burden on her old colleagues and would ride it out at home.

One of our neighbours lost his wife last week and the hearse brought her home for the last time and then walked the hears out the village with the widower alone in his car behind. No flowers, just him alone. The whole village turned out to stand outside our houses to say goodbye but what a dreadful day for the poor man.

Very sad times indeed.

So sorry to hear this Ian .. and hope and pray your dad gets through this and may your Mum have an elevated place in paradise.

We have a national helpline here at a charity I'm trustee for and we are running a support line (hfuk.org 0333 880 6619 ) and some very hard times for folks.

I had the virus 3 weeks ago and tho I had mild symptoms and a fit 51 yr old .... the mental covid roulette wheel played heavily on my mind during that time.

God Bless

Chris

Amidst the pain I hope you can feel care and love reaching out to you.

Incredibly difficult times. One of my employees who recently retired after 45 years service to healthcare passed away to Covid-19. I do worry about the wider effects of Covid-19. Lots of NHS services have been curtailed or are under used because of public fear especially regards cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment which I fear will create more indirect victims later down the line.

My GP, who retired very recently at 59, has sadly just passed as a result of Covid.

Today I was told that one of my apiary site owner's brother has succumbed to Covid -19, last time I got to see him was in August carrying out one of my last hive inspections. He was amazed by the bees and said that he was going to take beekeeping up as a hobby when he retired, and was looking forward to inspecting the bees again this year... he was 55 and lived in Manchester.

RIP Bill.
