I thought there were too many bees that's why I added the super to the brood box. Maybe a commercial is the answer?

You have to learn add boxes in time, no mater brood boxes or supers.

Take excluder off. Then you see.

I think this is the option I will go for in future and may offer good opportunities to split into 2 colonies as well

Green algae in the wood is not a good sign. You are mad there with your cedars.

If it’s cedar then it will be algae on the wood from a damp environment same as there would be algae on a polyhive in the same site or a stone. If the wood is solid, let the algae be.

No surprise the honey you get has scarcity value.

Tet honey owns those values only amongst the same mindset
who believe rough ground whale foreskin and rhino horn dust
will save them from embarassment were they ever to cover a
Kardashian(sp?) type a(r)ss.
The product isn't the best of tasting honeys, by far.

...ummm, that is not bearding, it is clumping. In this
instance a gathering of excommunicated young bees.

A gentle puff of smoke at the entrance to scurry any
agro guards inside and you can run your bare hand
through them and pick them up.

FWIW.. single deep broodchamber and teach yourself
to maintain wall to wall brood innit. The bees will backfill
the BC for winter, when you set work to build that outcome.

Easier again would be one size frames and no excluder, management is simple and frames can go wherever you want them.

Do you mean that with double brood you dont need a queen excluder?

None needs a queen excluder, it is a convenience rather than a necessity

My experiences with fecund Buckfast queens is if you don't use a queen excluder they lay a vertical plume of eggs in every super you have added, despite already being on double National brood boxes.
Other races may behave differently.

I have seen cedar hives that are 50 years old. The wood doesn't need painting or treating with a preservative. Pine is different and will fail in a few years if not treated.

Cedar is not water proof. At least wood becomes wet.

Everybody here paints pine or what ever wood. Unpainted wall is a sign of poor people.
