Thought the standard test was to pour liquid nitrogen over a specific area of brood and count the rate at which dead brood was removed.

:iagree:
100% right.
However, f1s from the class A breeders can be used as drone mothers to disperse the best genes from, probably, the biggest bee breeding programme in the world. This would give Beds a terrific start. It wouldn't take much for the microscopy group to learn II too.
We could be delivering our first batch of test queens to the training apiaries by summer.
It just needs a mandate from the members.

The Buckfast bee importers will be not be too happy about any such proposals to flood the area with the carniolian sub type drones... welcome to the club!

Sounds quite bad with all those tests.

That I know that B+ will loose his nerves totally. And quite a lot more money...

Well, this is what Norman Carreck referred to in a presentation he gave to BedsBKA before Christmas. I've been doing this for a long time.

The Buckfast importers couldn't give a damn. It will make little difference to the current situation of being surrounded by non Buckfast bees. However, if they were Carniolan then it might be an improvement. I'm told that Buckfast x Carniolan are extraordinary bees....difficult to source though.

Even if mine were surrounded by carnica, I would still need to island mate or II the virgin queens to retain control of the pedigree

You have all kind of problems, even if the breeding has started.
All energy goes into stupid questions.

Does it matter what the bee is as long as its performance is very good and to your expectations?

Exactly.... however some would like to know where it has come from.

I buy my milk from our local dairy as I know it if from Cornish cows eating Cornish grass in Cornwall!

Likewise with pork*.. from my local farm... NOT IMPORTED from Denmark!!

As with so many things local is best!

* rare breed Sandy and Black... although he has others!!

How exactly is a pig originating in Oxfordshire local to Cornwall?
You are eating imported pigs.

Point missed.... Locally raised pork and a rare breed !

On a good note pleased to see you sold your spinner on fleabuy for £499 less their exhorbitant charges, this will help you to fund all those queens you need to import for next season and replace the overwinter losses!

This means that all my Buckfast queens (F1's) that I breed now automatically become local bees because they are raised in my local area....Well I never.
