Much the same as african (and africanised) bees. No point in a few dozen guard bees stinging an elephant that is shaking their tree home (and possibly knocking it over), some predator, or even a potential threat. Now, a few dozen thousands all at once, would likely be a better defence or deterrent. Tough on the innocent passers-by - shoot now, ask questions later?
