Hello,

I wonder if you'd be able to give me some advice? I'm in a rented property and I think that some bees have decided to make a home in the guttering area above and to the right of the bathroom window. It seem to start with two and now there are about eight. They're not coming in through the open window, so they're not a nuisance in that way. But I can hear the occasional buzz when I'm inside the bathroom. Whether that's coming from the wall or their access point, I'm not sure.

It's hard to look out the bathroom window to get a good visual on them because of the angle and where they access the guttering but they look dark-bodied. They're definately not wasps, but which variety of bee they are, I don't know. I've seen at least eight of them flying around. I don't want them to be killed, but on the other hand is it going to be safe to just leave them? Or will this cause damage to the property or damage in other ways e.g. attracting other pests?

They've been here about four weeks already. Investigating it further or removing them is not something I can do myself. I would much prefer that they are not killed. If they have to be removed via some sort pest control expert, will this be done humanely? How long will it take? Can it be done without the use of chemicals as I do not use them in any way myself and do not wish them to be used in or near the house. If they can be left, how long before they fly off and will whatever they leave behind attract other pests? Do I have to report it to my landlord anyway?

I'd appreciate your advice and suggestions.

Most likely tree bumble bees. Leave alone unless causing problems. Will likely be gone by August. No building damage occurs.

Dear RosieMc and Itchy,
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. The link has helped me to identify them. They look to be bumble bees from the link.
Thanks so much for the reassurance. One less thing to worry about! ;)
Come August, I'll probably miss them. ;)

:)
