Never had a problem with our 17 cats - sometimes they sit on the hive (not all of them at once...) - the bees don't seem to take any notice of them.

We had 2 hives on the garage roof for the first year and both our cats sat on one each. Didn't bother towards the end of that year when the bees got protective. Check out my pictures, cute and happy cats I think they like the warmth. Steven

Our cat use to jump on any flying object that landed in the garden. Since getting the bees it has stopped doing that. I did not see it get stung but presume it must have. This year when we collected a swarm, rehousing it in the garden and they were walking up the sheet, the cat came out of the house and walked around the garden with its back to the wall (well effectively, it hugged the fence all the way round to get the furthest distance from the bees)

i have three cats one loves to sleep on top of the hive if it is sunny
and ive even see her on top in the cold mornings keeping warm from the heat that the bees produce
:)

Love all your replies on this thread, thank you.
The neighbour's cat in the question has obviously realised that I'm not very keen on having it around - it has done the garden equivalent of sitting on the lap of the cat-hating visitor - this morning there were three dead mice neatly arranged on the patio outside my back door.
It must have known I was hoping the bees would discourage it from visiting.
I love cats but I also love the birds we get in our garden, if I wanted a cat in my garden I would have my own. Ah well . . . . . .
;)
