model for best practice... Sounds a little one sided, considering there is no one set practice we can all agree on let alone which bee strain or which hive type is best.

Anyone know anything about LASI practices?

...Ratneik is too set in his views that are reinforced by his BIBBA friends that black bees are better

Fortunately most well informed University projects have come to same conclusions, based on sound research and good academic practice.

well the question needs asking whether it's off topic or not, which/when/where projects have reached these conclusions.

OH!

A BEE JOB.
sorry!
:svengo:

Interesting that they don't seem to specifically mention any beekeeping qualifications, either as necessary or even just "desirable". Does this say something about Prof R's views of the BBKA exam system? The "further particulars" pdf states a degree or equivalent is essential as is (I assume as an "or") Level 6 NVQ or equivalent, which might mean Master Beekeeper, which is going push the average age of the potential applicants up somewhat - XXX** excepted, whose recent MB probably brought the average age down by a decade.

Also, the job starts at the beginning of March and thus given this is now the depths of winter they can't hold any sort of practical tests such as disease examination, catching queens etc. If was going to recruit for such a post I would ask for at least qualifications and experience to be mentioned, if only to weed out the non-starters. Then after interview I would whittle them down to say 3 or 4 and then give them an afternoon in an apiary to see how they perform.

Or was the comment above that they have already selected someone and this is just a formality correct?

If it wasn't down the road from my Mother in Law* I would be tempted to apply, just to see how far I got.

*Joke dear...
** I originally put someone's forum name here but deleted it as I suspect he might otherwise become a foil for a few barbed comments. Well intentioned rib-tickling though it might be.

I wonder if they already have someone but uni rules dictate it must be advertised, even if it's not likely to be seen by any suitably qualified candidates.

I have found that that is so often the case in life. There is very possibly already a person doing the job and it might just be the case that the position has just come up for renewal.

University funding comes and goes, as do the positions of employment that funding can create.

I don't think the skills needed are any problem, just the part of the country where one would have to be.

:iagree:

Not much to do other than manage properly - project management stuff. :)

Piece of cake. Just a couple of days ref AI training and away to go. ;)

Sussex is good bee country but, we love the West Coast too.
