I've had a call to collect a swarm in Ashford in Kent, I'm not really available to remove it so if anyone wants to go and get it drop me a message and I'll pass the number on to you.

Or get some numbers off the BBKA swarm list if you hear nothing...all you need is a postcode or place name. They are all insured...

there not insured read your bbka info you need 3 part insurance to work in the public sector like my electrical insurance. they only thing that are insured are your hives

reads to me that we are insured unless making a living at it!

yep, that's what it states, so I can't see how/why some folk think bee-keepers (members of the BBKA) aren't insured for collecting swarms.

so we are insured to climb on some ones roof to remove swarms, covered for damage that may happen and if the bee's sting and kill the owner of the house ill be fine then. as long as there is no money changing hands some how i dont think so.

some beekeeper dont know the first thing about collecting swarms they make a mess and other's have to clean up after them this is unfair and wrong I dont think the bbka has the right to put people on there list who are not skilled in any way to collect swarms. some people that are on the list are very good other's havn't got a clue that the souting bee's return to the swarm site hours later and most of the time there not happy. (sorry just **** *** had to remove someone's left overs in the rain on monday)

our BKA (Norfolk) don't put anyone on the swarm collectors list who has no experience of collecting swarms.
the insurance doesn't cover for climbing onto roofs, have you had a good read of the insurance details?

So what is the minimum standard? My division has insisted all those they put forward must have passed the basic, but what does thAt prove about swarm collecting but the basic theoretical knowledge?

I've collected two easy ones and would make it very clear I won't climb ladders above a few feet and would recommend another in such a case. We shouldn't put ourselves at risk if we don't feel we are able to. Those that do should do so with caution. And always within the parameters of the cover/law.

the BBKA leaflet on swarm collection is a good start,
