Blimey, sat here at work and and have just seen a van go past blaring out "any old iron?"
Blast from the past, eh?
At least someone is being enterprising in these hard times:)

WE have had one too, the price of scrap is so high... well worth it, and if you cycle watch out for the branders going missing... worth I hear £70 a go.

A sign of the times!

problems come when industry shuts down due to lack of investment and commodities crash.................. back to the winters of discontent and starving peasants !

We've had one for the past 4 years.. Lots of old cast iron fencing in the field beside us:)

Unfortunately the high price of metal is making metal thefts more common.
Lots of farmers round here have had hurdles stolen in the night.

Theft of hurdles hadn't occurred to me. I'll hide mine away a bit better.

Around here it seems that most of the people looking for scrap metal are actually casing the joint for a later burglary.

never left here the gyppos took over after the scrap men stopped doin it a lot of big iron gates have gone missing in the night too

Reported in the news recently where they stole a children's play area kit - the lot cut off just above ground level.

we were camping in our home town's country park a few weeks ago and all we could hear for hours on end was a loudspeaker begging for scrap :banghead:

i dont think there is a decent " legal" scrap collecter in the west mids most i see are running untaxed vans and are proberly the reasons why man hole covers go missing in the middle of the night. and as for the metal thiefts they will pinch any thing around here. even the placks off the war mamorials and the copper gas pipes that run along the front of houses, all the front porches in my street have had the lead nicked off them and replaced with banjo tape instead
