My snow melts normally in the middle of April.

It is the angle of sun, which makes the date so same.

50 years ago my mentor ordered 2 American beekeeping magazines, and studied, what ideas he can use in beekeeping. Much of his studies are now basics in beekeeping. He had worked in Canada, and learned English there.

Another splended beekeeper was a teacher, and he used Russian language, he communicated with Russians, Polish, Estonians and do on. He for example educated Paradise Honey's owner to beekeeping.

Everything, what we have in beekeeping, have imported here. We have picked best from the world. That is why Finnish beekeepers are good. Nothing native to protect.

First oil crisis 1975 was a turning point in our beekeeping. High unemployment encouraged people try beekeeping as a business.

why I tell this.... Best knowledge comes from countries which have different weather. Our weather things I allready know....

What is a difference with US and German researsh in beekeeping?

My mentor told 50 years ago, that Germans want to know, what colors bee see, how they fly and how communicate.

US researchers want to know only, how to get more honey from hives.

Is that why many of the most renowned beekeepers in history were Americans? Doolittle, Quinby, Langstroth, Dadant, Root etc?

Winners write the history. Who knows, what have happened in different countries.
What do we know about Chinese beekeeping history, or about Argentina, which are now biggest honey producers.

When Tamar Valley nursed their Ice Ace native bees, Irish guys robbed women from Iceland. Yeah. Different climate and different hobbies. In Tamar Valley mothers did not let their boys go to the seas. They must pick apples from trees

Well I don't know who's leading in this argument, but I know who's well ahead in the 'writing drivelling gibberish' stakes.
I think this thread lost it's 'thread' back at about post #87. From thereon it lost the will to live!!

Agreed - it could do with pruning from about #92 onwards because there's nothing new, just the same old, same old ...

I sincerely apologize to those that have been through this before, I would have dropped the thread a while back. However slowly day by day I have recieved some excellent offers of help via pm, I have also been contacted by several people who would like to run short articles on the research in various Bee publications.

For this reason alone i have kept the thread alive, overall the response behind the scenes has been beyond expectation so on balance it has been worth it.

Mr Finman I have been asked not to feed you, out of respect for the other members i am going to resist the temptation to educate you on some of your recent responses.
In my defence i feel i should respond to one accusation you have made.

You state I know nothing about bees, i find this unfair. I stated upon joining my credentials, I hold a PhD in both Bio Chemistry and Entomology, it is extremely unfair of you to expect an Entomologist to know about insects and Bees! I admit i have read few books on Bees or insects, I certainly never read the ones I have wrote myself!!

I did ask to be sent to Finland to be trained in your cutting edge techniques, however we didnt have the time or budget, also for some reason our managing director couldnt stop laughing long enough to sign the cheque, when i asked her.

I do however owe you one final thank you, I will share a story you reminded me of when you spoke of your yields. It brought back some fond memories of my early years.

Many many years ago when I was around 10 years old, my older brother was 16-17. I was the kind of kid who would change clothes anywhere or go swimming naked, my brother however always changed behind a locked door.
This would sometimes puzzle me when we went 'skinny dipping' and he would spend enormous amounts of time to find a place to change, he never went naked when swimming.

I remember asking him on a number of occasions why he was so shy, eventually he admitted that due to the enormous size of a certain appendage, he found it embarrassing to be naked in front of others. For many years i felt saddened by my brothers plight, his whispered tales of the nightmares he had strapping and concealing said appendage upset me, I also felt extremely guilty that i had been born normal and could walk around without shame.

Then around 15 years later we played squash one day at a local club, the club was new and to our horror the shower's and toilets were communal. My brother had to return to work and needed a shower, for the first time ever he had to shower in full view!!

This was the moment in my life i discovered some people are not very good at estimating size.

I have posted this before but, since you are new here, you may not know that you should "Beware the Finman!" (http://www.orkneyjar.com/folklore/finfolk/finman.htm)

You waited all this time to tell me!! Thanks, i guess it was some kind of initiation :D. I think maybe a less cruel one should be implemented in future lol.

Having read it i now understand the 16 foot Bees and 11 ton hives! all that fishing and they still find time for Bees! not worthynot worthynot worthy

:icon_204-2::icon_204-2: 150 Finnish Kilos per hive on average ... us mere mortals can only aspire to such greatness !!

Sadly, stopping feeding him is a bit like stopping a super tanker ... it takes a while to stop !

You out there get only 10 kg/hive, even if you feed sugar to hives a year around.
Sugar must be inverted that , that it cannot be detected in quality analysis.
