Couple of photos of some of my hives taken on 12th February, the snow drift coming over the bank in the picture of the 2 nuc's almost engulfed them, temperature -14.
Couple more photos taken 1st March +14, bees flying and bringing in pollen, :coolgleamA:
(some of the hives were moved during the snow)
Anyone care to suggest what the weather will be like in 18 days time.......

Those disc entrances look great. But are those crates strong enough to hold all the supers full on honey you hope to get!;)

Ever tried standing on one? Great idea - wish I had a friendly milkman!!! Useful mouseguard?

Indeed they are strong, they hold 24 x 1.5 pt which I guess is about 25lb and then they stack them eight high.......
However the hives that I moved have nice wooden stands now and these will in due course. They were a temporary short term fix but are really handy.

first picture was a glimpse of mine on the 6th before the onslaught demonstrated by the following pics taken on the 12th. all hives and chicken houses below compacted snow level (we were walking 4ft off the ground). Further 18" on the 19th. apparently been 18-20C this week. all alive and foraging well on Wych Elm and remains of the Loquat (over 4 months in bloom).

Looking at the second picture quickly I thought they were penguins on one of the hives.

What is all that white stuff :xmas-smiley-010:

Don't see much of it here in the sunny south :nature-smiley-016:

We've had no snow all winter...unless you count a dusting that lasts half an hour or so. Last time it did this there were six foot drifts in April that snuck in from the NE. Hmm...

I see the dog is being trained to dig the snow.
very good. :)
