Those of you that don't mind sharing, it would be interesting to have an overview of what losses we experienced last winter. Divided very simplistically into those with more or less than 5 hives. Drone laying queens count as a loss.

I've done these the past five years, results here

2014/15 http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33168 (104 participants)

2013/14 http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28489 (157)

2012/13 http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22931 (228)

2011/12 http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16415 (213)

2010/11 http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9654 (217)

I've included the previous results in brackets by each option.

Due to this effing freezing weather which is keeping most sane bees tucked up inside and warm rather than frolicking in the OSR, I will leave the poll open for a few weeks.

My three hives (as a lowly beginner) have made it through and are expanding well. all hives have a super on and 2 need another soon based on a quick look a couple of days ago to see if they did need any food after reading posts on here

Your % calculations are based on the total number rather than the number within the category, so that for 5 hives or less, we have:
  • 0% - 6 - 55%
  • 1-25% - 3 = 27%
  • 26-50% - 1 = 9%
  • 51-100% - 1 - 9%

And for more than 5 hives, it's:
  • 0% - 6 - 22%
  • 1-10% - 10 - 37%
  • 11-20% - 6 - 22%
  • 21-30% - 3 - 11%
  • 31-50% - 1 - 4%
  • 51-100% - 1 - 4%

Yes, by intention, but yours is certainly another valid way at looking at it

I was only thinking the other day that the annual d!ck waving competition was long overdue :D

In a blind poll for gathering data? hardly comparing penes, however, mine is considerably larger than yours ;)

But it usually gets posted on this thread - not that I'm concerned one way or another.
As to your second comment - I believe so, or at least I have heard people referring to you as the big dick :D

Lost 2 full size smith hives out of 24
Lost 3 Paynes nucs out of 23
Lost 11 keiler mininucs out of 14

One hive and one poly nuc started ok but became drone layers in May

.
Varros losses and Queen problems. I had 100% spare hives. Perhaps problems ahead, to where sell all honey.

Had an exceptional winter here in New England, first winter since 1990 that I had no loses at all. And my bees are what many around here call the crappy southern bees that can't survive in northern climates.

lost 18 hives. Really crap winter, just hoping for lots of early swarms that I can use to re stock with.

having an epidemic of failing 2015 queens at the moment.

they seemed healthy during the first inspection, but are dwindling or becoming drone layers.
I have replaced over 20 2015 queens so far this year, but have lost a few colony's that I did not catch in time.
