BBG I feel your post /attack on o90o is uncalled for things in his personal life should NOT be displayed on here. you should be ashamed of yourself.
A lot of good information comes from this poster so don`t be too hasty in shooting down his comments.
Just remember based on your train of thought at the time of reading a post.
What can be misunderstood will be misunderstood.

Who was it that first posted this information? it could only have come from one source. I think we all know that Rabs posts are very good and useful, it's just the way they are sometimes delivered! He needs to do what he keeps telling everyone else to do, think about the delivery before hitting the reply button.:)

Getting a bit fed up with the muck slinging that's going on at the moment, the whole thing was amusing for a while I'm nobody's fan or enemy but we're spoiling some people's posts. see this link http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=13507 seems huntsman's got it in for Chris luck as well (maybe it's the weather) so let's not pillory Rab (or anyone else) on this one, he's got an ascerbic manner in his posts but hey, hands up whos perfect? (this time I wont put mine up!!) cool head Huntsman and don't be so quick to go on the offensive :chillpill:. We're here to learn/share our experiences on beekeeping, not bring out handbags at dawn!! this is not a serious complaint but just a request to accept everyone's different method of passing on knowledge and try to look past the small brickbats.
Christ I'm sounding as if I've smoked one of my seizures:eek:!!!!!! peace man not worthy
Come on guys this particular post is too important to be lost in a smoke cloud of a personal argument :)

Look, I have no problem with anyone having a different view or opinion to mine but what I take issue with is being attacked on nearly every second post by Oliver. Not necessarily about what I had to say but because in his opinion I should have been more exact in choosing my words. Seems Oliver likes to play with the semantics.

If I say correctly that honeybees will not poo indoors he tries to trash me by also correctly saying when they're sick they do. But what has a tiny piece of nosema poo got to do with the problem the poster who started the thread has?

I would not mislead anyone here whether they are new beekeepers or experienced, what's the value in doing that? I come to share and also learn but I will defend myself not for a difference of opinion but from repeated personal attacks where I'm told I'm telling 'untruths,' meaning lies.

I have asked Oliver to stop this but unfortunatly he seems unable to do so.

Very sad that what was started as a very interesting thread has still not been answered. That poster must be saying to himself, what a load of cobblers!

At this time of year robbing bes try and get into the hive by any means, I sometimes find odd blobs of poo on the tray, left behind by bees caught underneath. Depending on how secure the tray is, the Th***** budget floors are reasonably easily accessed as the plastic tray is flimsy, sometimes the bees are still there....dead and sometimes once they have removed the bulk they can get out. If the bees were pooing from inside the hive the blob would be more split from the mesh on the OMF.

Frisbee

I think that must be the answer Frisbee, thanks. The boards are certainly not bee tight when fitted (they came with the hive and there's a fair amount of wiggle room) - I noticed a couple of times that bees seemed to be disturbed and come flying out when I removed the boards, but hadn't really connected the two.

Next time I fit them I'll insert something to try to keep them out! Thanks for the help.

I do not name call him or slur his character, which is his modus operandi.

Oops. Epic fail, as my 11 year old godson would say.

It's very difficult to help people if one is inexact in one's language. It is even more difficult online, as context is not easily derived.

I goes somewhat deeper than that. I call it nit-picking.

Can we leave this behind now?

That is what semantics is all about, surely? I'd say it's a dead duck. Consensus seemed to be bee pooh, monitor and treat as necessary.

I always try and see if things will run their course rather than get heavy handed.

Of late things have got a little out of hand at times and I think it is time I stepped in and done a little "Administration".

I hate to wave a big stick but a few are starting to spoil things for others.

Unfortunately it's the way this forum is going MM.
Too picky and rabid a lot of the time.

It's time Mark sorted this out, I'm fed up with it.

Do you have any reliable sources for this statement, please?
It's different to what I was taught about beekeeping

H.A.Dade in his 'Anatomy & Disection of the honeybee' has this to say:-

'The small intestine opens into the rectum. Like the crop, the rectum is capable of very great distension, also of contraction to a very small pouch. When fully distended, it almost fill the abdomen, then extended and dilated to the limit. In this condition, shown in Plate 8A, it is able to accommodate the large quantity of waste matter which accumulated during long periods of confinment of bees to their nest as in winter conditions.'

but that still doesn't say.
Bees are very clean and will only vent outside the hive.
does it?

I though having read that, you would understand their ability to 'hold it in.'

Logic should tell you they have this ability so as not to take a dump indoors.

Could you imagine 50,000 bees having an indoor crap each day?

I have a degree in science, and know how to read and interpret papers, thanks

but you stated
Bees are very clean and will only vent outside the hive.
as though it was a fact?

I would go with bee crap - I'm amazed at how big the splodge is on the side of the hive when they crap mid-flight in-bound....

Otherwise a pollen load....

Or a bit of dropped propolis...

Can you tell me what the brown smudges are? Found during a varroa count on the varroa board. They are between .5cm and 1cm big. When I took the board out last night they were shiny like lumps of toffee, but today (when I took the photo) they were like fudge in appearance and consistency.

Did you call in the Bee inspector...... and what was his verdict?

Was it Auldus Huxley who said that rolling in the brown stuff is no way to get clean, so if you make a mistake admit it and shut up... because rolling in the brown stuff is no way to get clean... English lit. was never my subject!

If I say 'bees are very clean (and under normal circumstances) will only vent outside the hive.

Does that make you happy?

it's not about making me 'happy' (whatever that means) it's about putting out reliable, factual statements, especially on a forum where new beekeepers glean a lot of their information.
regards, Tony
