I think the concern is that such a long cold spell this spring following such a poor summer in 2012 will put extra strain on already struggling colonies that never got a full chance to build up last year.

The snow flake that broke the bee colony's back

I think I like it better than the 18 degrees last year and then turning cold, this is more normal. Hoping for warmer weather soon, won't be doing much gardening this weekend! Snow forcast until Monday. Check hives on Thursday, still doing okay, fingers crossed.

This is interesting. I am way down south. However I notice two things.
One: the flowers manage to stop themselves growingsprouting during a cold spell and continue on afterwards.
Two: I discussed all last year with my bee partner that the year was late. I actually noticed that everything was a month late. Our bees still managed to produce honey and be strong going into the winter.
we need to be flexible in our mind

Well I'm consoling myself with the fact that the weather at home will be so bad that I won't mind spending the weekend in Prague, instead of in the garden.

Hmm - spent last weekend in Venice - it was cold........ and it p!ssed down!!

It just might turn out to be a year without OSR, yielding proper honey from hedgerows, as it used to be, 30 - 40 years ago.

It seems to have all been ploughed back into the fields where we walk the dog ... usually acres of the stuff knee high by now. Looks like some fields have been resown with what looks, initially, like field beans ... which will be great if they get a chance to flower - all very late and we're supposed to be in the costa south coast ... just got to feel sorry for those of you in less temperate areas of the UK.

What about all the billions we have given to scientists who keep asking for more money to cure global warming
Remember the emperors clothes !!!! Lol

Birmingham and even the UK cover just a very small part of the globe. Over the whole of it there seem to be a lot more extreme weather events than there used to be. Perhaps "climate change" would be a better description of what's going on, but the nay sayers find that harder to ridicule.

There will still be those saying 'Climate change ~ what climate change ?" as the last bits of ice melt on the Polar caps and Norfolk is under 10 metres of the North Sea.

There is a cracking interactive map of the effects of rising sea levels here:

have i heard or did i read somewhere that global warming had now ceased and now gone in reverse
if i am wrong i hold my hands up and apologise now but with us all going to be barmy by 2010 with mad cow and all going to die from chicken flu you cant blame me for thinking the scientists are just creating work to look after their jobs i mean who would question an "expert":ohthedrama:

just had a look on the web at WUWT site where it states global warming is something of an urban myth like i said scientists on an earner

When did the climate ever stop changing? The earth used to be a toxic planet with no life. The climate has always changed and always will long after the human race has gone. Do your bit to help mankind fine but we shouldn't be so arrogant to say we're responsible for planet climate change, god complex or what
