Some bell heather out and ling starting to emerge. Flowers on the ling not open yet.

Well the hives in the garden are humming again:winner1st: and still foraging like mad at this hour.

Tomorrow morning is the day for going round all apiarys.... I've washed my suite and my leather gloves have gone in the bin, there OK for a few inspections but once they have bee venom on the girls like to sting you wearing them, nitrile all the way!!

It’s going to be a hot one, so you’ll end up with soggy wrinkly curly green fingers in nitrilesbee-smillie
Have a good day, I’ll only be watching at entrances tomorrow and watering the geraniums to max the nectar availability.

I'll be starting at 9am.. I've seven apiarys to go to and colonys to condense over at catherton common. (for the Heather)

Hopefully bringing some supers back for extraction, i bought two new extractors this season to save some time makes all the difference.

It's going to be a day that's for sure:calmdown:

I might even do some inspecting without the gloves I might save the green finger's getting wrinkly!!

Wow, rather you than me today!! I shall be doing nothing but slowly melting into my desk chair in these temperatures. Your suit will need ringing out by this afternoon!

Bees going bonkers on the Golden rod in my garden today!

There's plenty of buckwheat, sunflowers, gold of pleasure /camelina coming into flower in the farm wild bird seed mixes. I doubt it will produce a crop but it might mean I will feed less... I'll have to wait and see.

To slightly ignore the thread title.

The Cherry Laurel in my garden is covered in my honey bees, all working the extra floral nectaries on the leaves. Never noticed it in August before, only much earlier in the season. Anyone else observed this. Surprised as within a mile there is tons of Hialayan Balsam flowering. Wonder how much nectar can be got from them.

Better quality nectar than HB

English or Cherry Laurel nectar in 'very large' quantities can lead to toxic honey.

However the bees will also be bringing in nectar from many other sources, heavily diluting any toxic effect. One.of the benefits of multi-floral honey.

A small hedge shouldn't lead to a problem.

I have let about thirty leek plants go to seed (I planted too many) and they currently have mop head flowers.

I wanted to see if my girls would like them and yes they do. They are about 30m from my hives.

So what I hope happens next is that the goldfinches enjoy the seeds.

Fred.
