popped down to Llety'r deryn apiary this morning, I had to drop eggs off at my sister's so took the main road. When I got down there, there was a distinct whiff of hawthorn. I took the usual route back and yes, hawthorn opening in all the hedges. Some near to home are almost in full bloom.

Saw the first glimpses of hawthorn today also.

What’s going to flower and appeal to all pollinators soon, was more on my mind yesterday than what is in flower now (not much!). Spring is about 2 weeks behind last year at my elevation and latitude I reckon.

Still, lots of glimpses of what’s to come - wildflowers in the meadow all showing their leaves and a few early spring wildflowers such as ribwort plantain (good bee pollen), cowslips, daisies, ajuga, fritillaries, dandelion in flower.

Year 11 of my project to turn a 1 acre upland field into a perennial wildflowermeadow. Particularly excited about the number of common spotted orchids coming up - hundreds this year 😊🐝🐇🦇🐦‍⬛🦋🪰🪲🕸️🌸🌼IMG_1785.jpeg

Holly is just on the cusp here - some flowers open but not in full swing just yet.
I've never seen to many buds on it though - does holly have mast years?

Hawthorn is in full bloom and smells fantastic.
Sycamore in my garden is finally in flower - later than others I've seen around here.
Horse chestnuts are out and there's plenty of red pollen going into the hives.

Rowan is just coming out.

Supers filling nicely!

**** and buttercups here in East Cambs. So much OSR around. The little honey I do get (most colonies died over the winter) will have to be taken off as soon as possible.

Having a walk through the clover fields yesterday and some of the red clover is flowering dead nettle well out and the phacelia is well advanced this rainy spring is making everything grow like wild fire.
Going to go up to the heather stances next week to see what it’s looking like , I’m really concentrating on the heather this year as I was a week late last year all said and done we still had well over 400lb of heather honey last season.
