I was tempted with these, but I am a little put off by the way the feeder works on the 14x12 version. There seems to be no way of inserting or removing a door to block access to the feeder without taking the eke off, and presumably you cannot fill it above the join either.
The feeder works just like the national one, no need to fill it to the brim as the capacity is large enough for a week or so. A bit of zinc or plastic queen excluder similar to the apidea setup should work fine to keep the queen in check. If not in use it could be stuffed with newspaper or hessian. But a full width feeder that acts as a crownboard would be even better.
I stocked one last Saturday for the first time and I can't cope with the lack of runners, the top bees space with the lugs quite recessed and so crushed a few bees. The next one will be modified.
I'm not looking forward to removing the roof as I didn't have any plastic sheeting to use as a crownboard.
