Just a quick question from a newbie. I'm completely new to this and am still reading up on the topic, so......

What time of the year can you set up a hive (for the first time) in the UK? I assume the winter months are not possible, but how late into the summer can they be set up? ie is it too late already?

Now is about the best time to get started as the bees will have time to build up. I got a nuc late last season and although it came through winter is still having problems.

Ok, thanks. What do you mean by late in the season?

Hi Matt
I got a nuc last July, which was on 5 national frames, i popped them into a National Brood box, and just fed them so they could build up.
It did not take them long to expand and they had plenty of space to build up stores for winter.
