I failed to find any free sheets ply wood so I went to the local wood yard and bought an 8×4 sheet of 9mm exterior plywood. A very helpful guy at Merritt and Fryers in Skipton even cut the sheet up into 460mm x 460mm, saved me about an hours works measuring and cutting. We got 10 boards out of it with a little bit left over for me to make a couple of Nuc crown boards. I also bought some thin bits of wood for the edges. I’ve made the board so we have one side 9mm deep with the other side a little deeper so we can use this for treatments & feeding. The deeper side was made with off cuts we found in a skip. The boards have cost me about £3.50 each to make. Ive cut a couple of feeding holes in them too, just another 8 boards to go.

Ive a couple of pictures on my blog if anyone is interested

Well done fella, good work - man after my own heart
Although broods and supers are cost effective to buy from suppliers sales, it feels very satisfying to knock up your own floors/roofs/crownboards for a fraction of the price
not worthy

Picked up some timber and a pot of paint from the local b+q that is closing down . Nice and cheap . Knocked up 3 under floor entrances for the polys to go on .

Uncanny, my wife asked me to build a bar in my daughters studio so for some reason I have loads of 3x2 studding left over, now I wonder what I can make from that pile of wood.

I set out to do a lot but due to distractions all I got done was a slotted rack for the lang

Frig that its bad enough sharpening one, mind you you must have some rough looking hives if you are using them to cut all your wood to length, most of what i have seen folk use a table saw. :spy:

The big Husky (3120XP) that is first in the picture is used to plank wood, it is fitted into a 'Alaskan Mill' together with a 44" Bar. I have not come across any Cedar yet, so we only plank hardwood, I've got loads of Oak, Ask and Sycamore ready for 'projects' and wood turning. Can't wait for our first Cedar - you may well see some here for sales if we get some.

Never having made anything at all from wood, I'm proud to say that I created 3 5-frame nucs. They're a little rough, but the interior size is correct. However, I want to make sure that the wood doesn't disintegrate in the rain - it's exterior ply, but I don't trust it. What should I paint them with? I gave them a coat of Ronseal's 5-year stain, but that seems like an expensive solution.

I use Scewfix no frills wood preservative

Might be worth giving the cut edges of ply a quick coat of exterior pva too

Just knocked up a 3 colony hive stand for a new out Apiary that is much closer to home...

made it more stable than others as the ground is more uneven (wider track) and added a permanent flight board for fun

National Supers

Put these supers together, all screwed through the top of the side wall down into the rails with Stainless Screws. Only another 10 to go!

Bought two sheets of 18mm ply and turned them into another 10 Comrcl Brood boxes ready for expansion and demaree........

Will check my stocks and might go get another 10 5mm ply sheets to make crown boards etc
