Hives still not taking down any feed so decided to take one last look as the Apigaurd has now come off. Well both appeard to have found a late flow of nectar from some where as one hive I cuculated around eight frames of stores and the other a little less than this. My hive at Village Girles plus her two are all taking 2:1 syrup.

28 degrees today and the bees have gone wild on the Ivy . Absolutely manic at the hive .

Hi all just done the last inspection . Seen bias and the queen.plenty of stores still bringing in pollen like mad . What a year !!!Swarming .catching a swarm.artificial swarm. Then finally a successful unite. Hope now they make it through the winter...bought all the equipment for three hives next year. Going to try 14/12 next year cheers all Neil

put the second tray of apiguard on today bees were out on the balsom today temp was up to 18c

Added 2nd dose of thymovar and topped up the syrup feeders on 18 colonies today. All seems well. My other colony at my Mums is on week 3 and dont need any feed in the middle of town.
All seems well. Lots of activity today in the sunshine.
Checked for brood in 2 that dont seem very friendly and pleased to say they have brood in all stages.......... the queens however wont make it past next spring ;)

took the apiguard trays out of my 3 colonies, turned the crownboards back over to just leave a top bee space now they don't need an apiguard eke.
placed piece of wood under back of hives to create a slight forward slope for the floor (all hives on solid floors)

Really frustrated at poly nuc refusing to accept a queen. No eggs, no brood, test frame earlier resulted in charged QC's. Second caged queen introduced for a couple of days then when all seemed peaceful, balled again on release. Back in her holiday home nursing her pride :-( another test frame but time is against me now.

All ready to feed back the honey I took from two old brood frames. Checked Feeder and still heavy with syrup. Bees still building comb in super. I thought it was too cold to lift off the super and look in the brood box. Bought a diary for next year as I don't like filling in forms and charts. Not even the one I designed.

Removed apiguard trays and smeared remainder over frame tops. 2 colonies with sealed brood (hurrah), and some stores (I hesitate to say enough). Topped up syrup on 1, other isn't taking any. Checked over nuc, fragile colony, no sign of a queen and the only sealed brood is drone........not sure they'll last the winter.

Bees very active, bringing in pollen. Apparently lots of fighting on the landing board. Could this be drone ejection?

Fighting not generally associated with drone eviction in my experience more like pushing and shoving of drones by worker bees.

Fighting on the landing board is not a good thing and especially as you are feeding may be a sign of robbing or attempted.

Note to self

Probably not great idea to gloss paint the inside of a load of poly feeders in a small hospital accommodation room.

window is wide open to get rid of the fumes as best i can. sorry flatmates!!!!

Lovely day at my apiary, sunny and 15 celsius. Bees very busy bringing in yellow pollen. Saw drones going into one hive. One hive has enough stores, the other two need a bit more so fed 2:1 syrup. Put mouse guards on. It's all looking fine and dandy. I love my bees :)

Took my queen less hive back to the guy that supplied it, replaced with a q+ hive, so helpfull and couldn't do more to help me.

Good point - never considered robbing.
This hive had plenty of stores upto 10 days ago, but since then hasn't felt as heavy (which I'd put down to the poor weather). I watched the bees on the landing board and there seemed to be two or more bees who would take one victim, drag it back down the landing board and onto the ground. What should I do from here?
