What did you do in the Apiary today?

Moved the expanding nuc into a full sized brood box, got stung on my thumb for my efforts! Took the wild brace comb from beneath a super frame and tied it into a brood frame. Made up some syrup to give them tomorrow to help them to draw out the rest of the frames of foundation.

Finally picked my two new colonies off from the local bee inspector (recently appointed).

All settled in after pulling the foam strips away getting to dark to see much more. Was a few bees at the one hive over quiet.

I combined 2 more colonies in the hope the sun will shine and I might get some more honey. Took one super today and wrapped it in clingfilm to wait for the others - hoping that I will just extract them all on the same day.

Received a new smoker in the post. Gave it a try and now I smell of smoke.
I really hope the weather picks up as I am spending too much money on the Internet while twiddling my thumbs.

Not seen my bees in almost three weeks, but back now and hope to get in on Friday.

Can it have been so bad while I was away that they took in no nectar?

I was adding supers just before I went away and the weather was awful then.

We are all complaining here that we don't have enough supers what with all this hot weather we have had over the last 3 weeks

United a q- hive to my best girls.

Yes I know, not supposed to be near them, but the hives are now at an out apiary and I was there with my (fully trained to use an epipen) OH who did most of the handling. Oh and I had several layers on too.

It's hard to give up bees completely

Moved all the bees from under the floor. Removed some brace comb of drone brood from the bottom of the frames. Loads of seals brood and stores. Moved some frames about to see if thay will draw them out any quicker. Seen the queen laying in drawn comb . The sun was out when I got home from work . So made the most of it Neil ....

Made up a load of brood frames, couple of dummy boards and finished the two OM floors, finished a crown board (no hole) and a feeder board (hole in middle) ready to put nucs into full size hives tomorrow.got some supers ready just in case cos apart from the rain the last two days they've been foraging like mad

Fed 1 ltr 1:1 syrup... But only to #4 this time, which was an AS and is still really light on stores. That should be the last now until the proper winter feeding!

Oh, and made another eke. Only need to scrounge up scrap wood for one more now

After inspecting 10 hives yesterday ,I knew it could not last, , started well in the morning and I inspected two hives for a friend who is holiday,,,then up to my university roof hives...did no more than check a super when it started to rain AGAIN

went home for a cup of Tea and sat and read a book...called at 6:00 for a large prime swarm in a front garden....stiill raining when i put it in and then back by 7:30 and finished my book

Having picked up a swarm late last night and housed it at 10pm (it was dry - and I saw today's forecast), I though they were dark bees.

They turned out to be... Carnies.

Transferred my nucs into full hives with a feed on to get them waxx making - marked the queen in one - badly! she decided to squirm as the pen made contact and together with the fact the pen let out a pile of paint queen now got yellow thorax (good) wing (not so good) and the odd foot!
She made her way back into the brood anyway so hope everything's OK.
Checked my other home hives then helped Bob777 inspect his hive and mark his queen (bit better marked than mine I must admit!)

Did an a/s. I actuall found the queen! She now lives in a poly hive. Hoping to build them up for winter and not re combine
