What did you do in the Apiary today?

Popped down and watched bees coming and going, some pollen coming in. Looked through see through crown boards, cluster sizes very different. My darker bees have quite a small cluster ~4/5 frames, new buckfast colony has a large cluster ~7/8. Put fondant on buckfast colony.

The hive I thought had died over winter is very much alive and even got bits of pollen going in :- D

You've had a winter?

Hefted some hives, killed a drone laying queen and replaced her with a new one, now it's raining again.

Finished digging in rabbit wire around 2 acre field/apiary. Now all I need to do is get the rabbits left in the field out.

Opened up 5 hives on one site to see how they were going, though not full inspection even though the temp was 13c, just lifted the crownboards. All of them doing well, very strong, wondering if its worthwhile adding pollen substitute this year as they are so stong.

All of them doing well, very strong.

The one i re-queened today was surprisingly strong, single brood national with ten frames of bees, and six of brood. (brood no good though)

I won't be adding any pollen sub.
