Transported some decking pallets to the out apiary.

Ready for some ground preparation before I move the hives there in march.

Getting really excited about keeping my girls somewhere less stressful than my garden.

Hi all,
Thought I had got some yellow pea soup out of the freezer last night. Turned out to be some ambrosia which I exctracted last year when my hive died from Q-. Did not taste bad. Syringed some for colony with little food stores and they were on it straight away. So, it must have some smell once it has been capped.

Cold cold here. So caught up on the posts on the forum and dreamed of warmer days!

Even colder here.

Went to Association Apiary, helped (?) add fondant, went to pub.

Went home, watched the snow falling made fondant - my own secret recipe

1.5kg sugar, 0.1kg pure fondant sugar, 40gms glucose, 0.3litres water, heat to the boil.
Immediately cool and stir.

No messing about with thermometers.

Good enough to eat.

Can't use it as too cold just now..

Didn't go in the Apiary.

Went to my local Association AGM.

Boddington's has a lot to answer for in Manchester;
Since they knocked down the brewery, no one knows how to organise a piss-up.

Then watched England kick the ass of France.

And now settling down to watch the women's match....*

* Not quite as good as women's beach volleyball, of course - a game of great skill, tactics and strategy.

Freezing here let well alone crossing fingers that it is too cold to eat much fondant.
The Skeps I ordered have arrived.
Went to do more cleaning and decorating at an empty duplex and try to dry out a wringing wet wall, it would be nice if it were possible to wring out a wall.

Freezing here also ,irony is I planted 20 pot grown holly bushes a few days ago . Evergreens that haven't yet developed a good root system and freezing desiccating winds don't make good bed fellows:(
We shall see if they survive or not!

Busy weekend for me.
Finished the bramble bashing and strimming in the orchard where my bees reside.

Went on a rescue mission to an apiary where the owner has sadly died. Bees had been neglected, some still had syrup on from Autumn. Sadly only two from about six had survived. They were just short of starvation, another few days and they would have been goners too. Debated with my fellow beek and decided that despite the weather we had no choice but to strip the hives down to BB (they had empty supers on), remove the QE's which had also been left on and stick on some fondant. Now it's fingers crosssed.

Took a new stand to out apiary and moved a poly hive there. I was chuffed to be a bit out of puff from carrying it (plenty of stores). Cold day with quite a raw wind.

freezing cold so will start building new hive, well maybe at least some frames!

Put together a national from THns sale. Including four supers (a spare for my second hive).
Knocked on the hive and had a listen...their response was much quieter than usual.... have a feeling they are barely clinging on to life. I think they make it to next Friday they might be in with a chance...it will be 7C then. That's the temp I have seen them forage at and there is a large carpet of snowdrops in bloom.

Do they have enough food in the hive till friday?

Well they were only a small cluster (two and a half seams)and I gave them ten kilos of fondant a few months ago. I am worried about that but it was too cold to open them up and check. They are in a poly nuc and there is an extra layer of polystyrene above the fondant so I cant see in unless I open it up.
I would be amazed if they had eaten all of that though.

Edit- looking at another post, it was the 5th of Jan.

Should last them if they are small in numbers. I have one hive that is down to 2 frames but plenty of stores.

Put my hives on their new stands. Very cold here so no bees about.
