I don't think she was happy about eating a beast that wasn't lovingly brought up be her family

This may be a rural myth....she might have been pulling my tail

Don't know about that - remember some of my family originally came from your neck of the woods - wouldn't be surprised that not only did they lovingly raise the pig, but shared living quarters with it! :biggrinjester:

Strange.
I was talking to a smallholder at my farmers' market and she recounted a tale about local abattoirs.
She had raised two pigs, treated as pets, but it was always understood they would be going for meat. One lost half its tail one way or another.
All went well as they were personally delivered to the slaughter house but when she got her carcases back there were two complete tails.

They are tagged now so you only have to check the tag on the ear, hence always ask for the ears!!!

If they are home bred they can go to the slaughterhouse with a slapmark. You can then see it on the skin of the meat so there is no doubt that it is your own.

What is a slap mark?......somebody was talking about this when we were talking about slaughterhouses

I have a man who comes to the house to chop mine -saves a lot of stress for the pigs not having to travel

As they are only for me it is legal
