You could also add a dash of washing up liquid, this kills the surface tension of the liquid and the wasps can't then float on the surface.

I agree with the dash of washing up liquid - if you feel you need to trap, then at least you kill them a bit more humanely by drowning them more quickly.

Except that they do. The abdomen acts as a bouyancy aid as it's filled with air. So they may drown more quickly but they then form a raft for other wasps to crawl over.

We had loads and European Hornets. Both were after the bees and the plums. Only a few wasps now though. I think I will remove the electrical conduct entrance soon.
