Washing new honey jars

Do new honey jars need washing before filling?
 
yes unless the packer can guarantee they are sterile.
 
I would probably sterilise them by putting them in the oven for a short time as well, the way you would do it for jam making. That reminds me, the blackberries are out. I must pick some for jam. Mmmm.

15 min in oven for me (the jars that is, I find I can't get in with them!)

Oven preferable to dishwasher unless you can leave long enough to be sure to be dry (but possibly no longer sterile)...

Sterlile probably not as essential as for jams and chutneys as honey would like as not suppress yeasts without water, wouldn't it?
