Excuses? You mean you tell her?? Maybe I'm lucky that I'm working from home while he who must be obeyed is out at work ask day so any packages are unpacked and the contents stashed with the other bee paraphernalia before he can notice 😂. That way I can raise an eyebrow at his golf purchases and retain the moral high ground 😉

You do not need excuses. Just buy it. I spent £800 on a new extractor last year and it is still in its wraps as last years harvest was pants. I got, "HOW MUCH?" and raised eyebrows then he went back into his workshop.

SWMBO moans a little when new stuff arrives. After I pointed out that I only waste money on my bees and not on wine, women and song she shrugs and gives up.
As George best said: 'I have spent my money on wine. women and song. The rest I wasted!!!'

I keep a separate account on PayPal for all of my bee stuff. It's rare that I buy anything for bees from our joint account.

Too many - but not nearly enough
I've told her there's rats up at the home apiary - and in the chamber of secrets (AKA my workshop) she never goes near there now.

My Swimbo doesn't like spiders with bovver boots, so goes know where near my storage sheds. I had to rescue one indoors last week otherwise it would have gone up the vacuum.

Try something novel like truthfulness and partnership.
That tends to be a one way street unless you time it to perfection .... usually when she is half asleep and then you can claim you told her and she agreed ..... any other time is risky.

What's your most unusual beekeeping purchase that you've got hidden away?

Mine would have to be chloroform.
